Summary
The Workday Product Architect leads the design, development, and deployment of comprehensive Workday solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Workday HCM and Payroll/ modules, responsible for shaping the architecture that supports HR and Payroll processes, ensuring system scalability, compliance, and alignment with business objectives. Partnering closely with HR, Finance, IS, and other stakeholders, this individual will deliver best-in-class solutions that drive business value. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team and play a key role in shaping the future of our Workday HCM and Payroll roadmap.
This position is 100% remote. All remote work must be performed within one of the MCW registered payroll states, which currently includes: WI, AL, AZ, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, TN, TX, and UT
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the development of scalable and secure HR/Payroll system architecture aligned with organizational goals, business needs, and compliance requirements.
- Act as both consultant and project manager for assigned initiatives, facilitating stakeholder meetings with Finance, HR, IS, and business leaders to elicit requirements, evaluate and recommend solutions, build alignment, manage project activities, and ensure successful implementation and outcomes.
- Optimize business processes by leveraging Workday HR/Payroll functionalities and automation capabilities.
- Define security frameworks specific to HR/Payroll modules.
- Provide guidance on data governance, internal controls, and audit compliance within Workday.
- Oversee complex configuration and system changes, ensuring best practices and minimal disruption.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of high-complexity system issues escalated by support or operations teams.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of HR/Payroll system architecture, integration designs, and process flows.
- Mentor and support consulting and technical teams involved in Workday HR/Payroll troubleshooting and enhancements.
- Stay current with Workday updates, industry trends, and emerging technologies to suggest continuous improvements.
- Ensure alignment across modules and touchpoints within Workday and other systems.
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
- Proven expertise in system architecture; solid understanding of HR and Payroll principles and business processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex, cross-module issues.
- Experience collaborating with senior HR, Finance, and IT stakeholders to define and deliver Workday strategy
Qualifications
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Required Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience working with Workday platforms, including significant hands-on expertise Core HCM and in at least two of the following modules: Payroll, Absence, Timetracking, Advanced Compensation, Benefits, Recruiting, Learning. 3+ years of experience in a Workday architectural or lead configuration role.
Preferred Certification / Licensure(s): Workday Core HCM certification; Workday Payroll Certification
Physical Requirements
Work requires occasionally lifting moderate-weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.
Work Environment
Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
Sensory Acuity
Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.

Target salary range for this position is between $93,400.00 and $120,200.00 annually. The final offered salary will depend on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, and knowledge, as well as considerations of internal equity and market alignment.
