Description of Work

The role of the Administrative Specialist I is to provide vital administrative support to the DHHS Office of the Controller (OOC) and their delegated section through efficient use of assigned and available resources and effective relationship with staff. This position is to request and purchase office supplies, equipment and/or furniture for OOC via an automated purchasing system. This position is responsible for answering & routing phone calls for OOC, opening, stamping, distributing and processing large volumes of incoming and outgoing mail for the Controller’s Staff. This position will assist with back up for the receptionist area and mail courier and other clerical duties as needed. This position must be flexible in learning new procedures and assisting the Administrative Supervisor with Special projects as needed to make OOC function in an efficient manner.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $39,244.00 - $68,679.00

Recruitment Range: $38,720.00 - $49,500.00

  • Thorough knowledge of office procedures and practices.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form, compose reports, forms, and correspondence accurately, effectively and accurately operate various office machines.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and maintain files in an orderly systematic manner and receive and sort mail.
  • Adapt to changing priorities in job duties.
  • Ability to adhere to work plan and perform job duties in accordance with the State of North Carolina and the Department of Health and Human Services Policy and Procedures.
