Job description

Climate Focus has a unique position in global carbon markets, acting as strategic advisors to a diverse set of clients on the supply and demand side with feasibility assessments, project development, due diligence, project structuring, legal and regulatory analysis and advice. Our carbon market and nature-based solutions (NBS) teams are globally recognized for providing cutting-edge advice that shapes carbon markets and drives integrity of carbon projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a pioneering and dynamic team. As a Consultant you will work in close collaboration with colleagues and partners on the following tasks:

Carry out quantitative and qualitative assessments of NBS carbon projects at diverse development stages to assess robustness of carbon accounting

Develop assessment frameworks and carbon accounting methodologies for NBS carbon projects

Compile and analyze data on carbon projects and carbon markets

Develop quantitative and spatial analysis, modelling, and data visualization using software tools including GIS, spreadsheets, and programming languages

Support development of corporate GHG inventories in the land use space

Carry out analysis on value chain de-carbonization options

Collaborate with and contribute results to multi-disciplinary teams

Succinctly summarize conclusions and recommendations for non-technical audiences including investors, buyers, and project developers

Take charge and support the management of Climate Focus projects

Support the expansion of Climate Focus’s project pipeline

Professional qualifications

Master’s degree in forestry, agronomy, ecology, soil science, remote sensing, climate science, or a related field

At least 5 years of professional experience related to carbon project and/or carbon accounting related to NBS (e.g., REDD, ARR, IFM, ALM, Blue Carbon). Relevant PhD research will be considered equivalent to professional experience.

Outstanding quantitative research and analytical skills, with proven experience to work independently on processing large-scale geospatial datasets (e.g., land cover, land-use change, biomass), quantitative modelling, statistics and remote-sensing based data products.

Demonstrated working knowledge of multiple data formats and software packages, such as Excel, QGIS, R (preferred), Python, GEE, git, etc. Links to personal online code repositories are welcome.

Demonstrated hands-on experience with carbon project development cycle (e.g., preparation of project design document, project validation and verification, rating, technical due diligence) and greenhouse gas accounting is a strong asset

Experience in developing carbon accounting methodologies and/or with carbon MRV (e.g., forest inventories, soil sampling) would be an advantage

Familiarity with integrity initiatives under development in the voluntary carbon market

Excellent writing, communication, and advisory skills, including ability to tailor clear messages to non-technical audiences

Excellent organizational skills, including managing projects, personal time management, coordination with project partners and clients

Spoken and written fluency in English. Other languages are an asset, particularly Spanish and/or French

Personal profile

Solution oriented self-starter with proven ability to perform in a highly dynamic environment with shifting deadlines and priorities

Passion for working in teams across disciplines and cultures

Ability to quickly understand client needs and develop tailored solutions

Passion for private sector driven solutions to climate change

Willingness to travel internationally
