  • Job Description:

ST&S Finance & Risk provides financial stewardship, analysis, control and business support to Supply, Trading & Shipping. The Core Finance team delivers scalable products and services supporting Finance business partners and specialist functions, including management information, valuation support, data and reporting, new activity delivery and continuous improvement. The role reports to the Core Finance Lead and works across business and technology centre locations and cross-functional teams.

Job Synopsis:

The Core Finance Analyst independently delivers assigned Core Finance activities with accuracy, control and sound judgement. As part of an agile pool of Core Finance talent, the role may flex across products, services, portfolios or initiatives in response to business priorities and to support individual development. The role produces and explains management information and performance analysis, completes valuation review activities, supports new activity implementation, and drives defined improvement initiatives.

Key Roles & Responsibilities :.

Independently produce, validate and explain high-quality management information and performance analysis, investigating material movements, data issues and valuation differences, recommending actions and calling out significant matters.

Perform valuation review activities for assigned portfolios with appropriate independence, including assessment of input data, curves, models, methodologies and adjustments, and support well-evidenced valuations aligned with external management accounting data requirements.

Support new commercial activity from assessment through implementation by coordinating assigned Finance inputs, maintaining delivery plans, completing functional assurance and readiness activities, and supporting handover into sustainable business-as-usual processes.

Lead defined improvement initiatives within agreed scope, using structured project delivery, process redesign and change management to simplify, standardise, automate or stop work.

Own assigned processes and deliverables end to end, maintain documentation and control evidence, and flex across Core Finance activities as business needs evolve, building breadth of experience and supporting individual development.

Work with Commercial Finance, Controllership, Finance & Risk Advisory, the Front Office, technology and service-delivery teams to resolve data, valuation and process issues, supporting clear, coordinated delivery Core Finance priorities.

Job Functional Knowledge:

Strong practical knowledge of financial analysis, management information, valuation processes, data controls, new activity delivery and business improvement in a complex trading or supply environment. Understands valuation inputs, curves, models, methodologies, data lineage and control evidence, together with the external management accounting data requirements affected by valuation outputs. Solid understanding of project delivery, process design, change management, automation and continuous improvement, with the ability to operate effectively across Finance, commercial, technology and service-delivery interfaces.

Business Expertise:

Good understanding of ST&S or a comparable commodity trading and supply business, including how transactions, market data, valuation methods, systems and operational events affect management information and external management accounting. Understands the roles of the Front Office, Commercial Finance, Controllership, Finance & Risk Advisory, technology and service providers, and works effectively across these interfaces to support consistent, high-quality Core Finance delivery.

Leadership:

Provides leadership through technical expertise, ownership and coordination rather than formal people management. Plans and coordinates assigned deliverables, reviews outputs where delegated, shares knowledge and supports less experienced colleagues. Influences project and agile delivery teams within defined scope and helps create clarity during process and technology change.

Problem Solving:

Applies independent judgement to valuation, data, reporting, process and delivery issues within established frameworks, often under tight deadlines. Investigates movements and exceptions, identifies root causes, assesses impacts and recommends practical actions. Raises matters requiring broader judgement, policy interpretation or material business decisions to the Core Finance Lead, Controllership, Finance & Risk Advisory or relevant specialist risk function.

Nature and Area of Impact:

Accountable for the quality, timeliness and control of assigned Core Finance products, services and change deliverables. The role supports reliable management information, well-evidenced valuations for external management accounting, successful implementation of new commercial activity and effective operational improvement. It improves efficiency, standardisation and capability across assigned areas of ST&S Finance & Risk.

Interpersonal skills:

Builds effective relationships across Finance, commercial, technology and service-delivery teams. Communicates valuation, data and process matters clearly, raises issues early and works collaboratively to resolve them. Facilitates working sessions, manages competing priorities and maintains a practical, controlled and delivery-focused approach.

Minimum Education:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in finance, economics, business, engineering, data or a related discipline.

- Relevant professional qualification or progress toward a qualification in finance, accounting, project delivery, data or change management.

- Relevant experience in commodity trading finance, valuation control, management information, commercial or new activity delivery, project delivery, process improvement or a comparable analytical environment.

- Experience independently delivering complex work, resolving issues and coordinating with multiple teams.

- Experience with physical or financial commodity valuations, trading and reporting data, functional assurance, business implementation, process improvement, automation, agile delivery or global service models
