Who We Are

International Justice Mission (IJM) is the global leader in protecting vulnerable people from violence around the world. Our team of over 1,200 professionals are at work worldwide in over 30 offices. Together we are on a mission to rescue millions, protect half a billion, and make justice unstoppable.

We are a global community that cares for one another. We believe that the way we work is as important as the results we achieve. We provide professional excellence with joy and celebration to all those we serve.

The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Director of Enterprise Portfolio Enablement to strengthen how IJM translates strategy into integrated, executable work. Reporting to the Chief of Staff to the CEO, the Director of Enterprise Portfolio Enablement holds a key strategic role on the Enterprise Strategy and Integration team. The Director will establish practical project management standards, use AI to make integrated planning possible at scale, advise and support Pathway and Regional Portfolio Managers, and lead enterprise portfolio integration across IJM. Success in this role is measured not by the number of processes implemented, but by the degree to which leaders have greater clarity, initiatives are better prioritized and sequenced, and strategic work is more likely to achieve its intended outcomes.

This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates and reports to Chief of Staff to the CEO. This role requires current authorization to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, now or in the future.

Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain enterprise project management standards and best practices for strategic initiatives that are practical, scalable, and intentionally lightweight, reducing administrative burden while improving execution quality;

Promote a culture of disciplined planning, clear prioritization, healthy risk management, strong communication, change management, systematic feedback loops, and measurement;

Partner with Pathway and Regional Portfolio Managers to embed standards and increase organizational maturity in project and program management;

Continually assess what is working and simplify or improve practices that create unnecessary burden;

Develop AI-enabled tools and approaches to support project planning, portfolio reviews, and integrated planning;

Establish practical processes and principles for estimating Business as Usual (BAU), identifying dependencies, and setting capacity thresholds that inform prioritization and sequencing decisions;

Advise Pathway and Regional Portfolio Managers as they develop and manage their portfolios;

Build a connected community of Portfolio Managers across IJM that shares practices, solves problems together, and continually strengthens portfolio management capability;

Design and lead workplan integration across pathways, regions, and countries with a particular focus on overseeing the governance of the Enterprise Calendar, which manages the spacing and sequencing of travel, training, and change initiatives at country offices;

Ensure project development, implementation, communications, and change activities are paced appropriately to maximize adoption and minimize organizational overwhelm;

Provide analysis and recommendations regarding change load, organizational capacity, implementation risk, and initiative timing;

Surface cross-functional risks, dependencies, and collisions early and support leadership in resolving tradeoffs;

Strengthen visibility into enterprise work and support intentional prioritization and sequencing of strategic initiatives across the organization; and

Participation in IJM's community of spiritual formation.

Qualifications:

8+ years of progressively responsible experience in portfolio management, program management, strategy execution, organizational effectiveness, enterprise transformation, or a related field;

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience;

Experience designing and implementing portfolio management approaches that improve organizational prioritization, coordination, decision-making, and execution;

Proven ability to influence senior leaders, facilitate enterprise-level discussions, and build alignment across diverse stakeholders without formal authority;

Demonstrated experience translating strategic priorities into executable plans and governance mechanisms that drive measurable results;

Experience developing practical systems, processes, and tools that increase organizational effectiveness while minimizing unnecessary complexity and administrative burden;

Portfolio management and strategic planning support;

Enterprise prioritization, dependency management, and initiative sequencing;

Organizational capacity planning and change load analysis;

Project and program management methodologies, tools, and best practices;

Data analysis and synthesis to support strategic decision-making;

Executive presentation development, meeting facilitation, and written communications; and

Strong proficiency with portfolio management platforms such as Asana, Smartsheet, or similar tools and with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.

Critical Qualities:

Eager commitment to IJM's Core Values: Christian, Professional and Bridge-Building;

Self-starter with strong initiative;

Disciplined with priorities;

Strong interpersonal skills and self-awareness;

Exceptional verbal and written communication;

Flexible, collaborative and eager to support others;

Effective team player who fosters collaborative environment; and

Adept at creative problem solving.
