Position Overview
Vantage is seeking a Director of Environmental Compliance, North America to lead environmental compliance programs across a growing portfolio of mission-critical data center campuses. This role serves as the senior environmental compliance leader for the region and is responsible for ensuring an audit-ready compliance posture, managing environmental risk, and maintaining regulatory compliance across both active construction projects and live operating facilities.
The Director will provide strategic leadership for environmental programs, air quality compliance, spill prevention, stormwater management, waste management, environmental audits, regulatory engagement, and environmental management systems. This position partners closely with Operations, Construction, Legal, and the broader EHS team to ensure environmental requirements are effectively integrated into business operations and growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Leadership
- Lead environmental compliance programs across North America.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local environmental regulations.
- Oversee implementation of environmental permits, regulatory reporting, inspections, audits, and agency interactions.
- Maintain environmental compliance systems, obligation registers, and compliance calendars.
- Monitor emerging regulatory developments and assess business impacts.
Environmental Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and manage environmental risks across construction and operational campuses.
- Integrate environmental requirements into project development, design reviews, commissioning, and operations.
- Partner with business leaders to proactively address environmental compliance risks and liabilities.
Air, Water & Waste Compliance
- Oversee compliance programs related to:
- Air permits and emissions reporting; emergency generators and obligations regarding stationary combustion sources
- SPCC and on-site fuel / oil management
- Stormwater and wastewater compliance
- Hazardous waste
Environmental Audits & Assurance
- Develop and execute a risk-based environmental audit program.
- Track corrective actions and verify closure effectiveness.
- Prepare sites for customer, internal, and regulatory inspections.
- Provide executive reporting on environmental compliance performance and emerging risks.
Environmental Incident Response
- Lead response efforts for significant environmental incidents, spills, releases, and permit deviations.
- Manage investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and regulatory notifications.
- Support emergency preparedness and environmental response exercises.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or Engineering field.
- 10+ years of environmental compliance experience in industrial, energy, manufacturing, mission-critical, utility, or similar high-risk industries.
- Experience managing air permits, SPCC programs, stormwater compliance, waste management, and regulatory reporting.
- Strong knowledge of EPA regulations and state environmental requirements.
- Demonstrated experience leading environmental audits, inspections, and compliance programs across multiple sites.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred
- Data center, chemicals, oil and gas, or power generation experience.
- Experience building environmental management systems and compliance governance programs.
- Experience building and leading teams of environmental professionals.

Walking construction sites with unlevel, uneven and/or rocky surfaces, as well as being outside in weather conditions that may include heat, cold, and wind, for brief periods of time may be required. The use of Personal Protective Equipment may also be required, including wearing a hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety toed shoes, and additional outerwear.
Additional Details
- Salary Range: $175,000 - $200,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)
- This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.
