The Director of Global Payroll Operations and Equity administration will spearhead our international (outside of Korea) payroll and equity operations and will be responsible for refining Coupang’s international payroll and equity strategy while taking ownership of its execution. It will ensure flawless, compliant, and highly efficient payroll processing across all operating countries, leading process transformations and automation initiatives, as well as ensuring accurate and compliant equity operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll and Equity Administration Stewardship: Take ownership of the accuracy, timeliness, and execution of day-to-day end-to-end global payroll processing and equity plan administration (including RSUs, options, and performance awards) across all international Coupang entities.
Operational Bridge to Transformation: Serve as the core operational counterpart to the Senior Director, Global Payroll and Equity Administration. Keep current multi-vendor systems running smoothly while acting as the primary feedback loop to ensure current operational realities and workflows are accurately captured by key process improvement or technology innovation projects.
Rigorous Vendor & SLA Governance: Actively manage and audit relationships with existing external payroll and equity providers. Hold vendors to strict service level agreements (SLAs), optimize costs, and maintain total stability across our payroll/equity ecosystem.
Day to Day Compliance & Risk Management: Enforce robust internal controls across all global payroll and equity operations. Stay ahead of multi-country tax logic, labor compliance, and regulatory shifts, ensuring that daily runs remain bulletproof and audit ready.
Team Leadership: Mentor, and advocate for a high-performing global payroll/equity team, fostering an agile culture centered on accuracy and continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Management: Collaborate deeply with HR, Finance, Legal, and IT to align payroll workflows with broader corporate timelines. Standardizing operation KPIs and reporting structures to provide key metrics to senior leadership.

Educational Foundation: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Global Payroll and Equity Scale Expertise: 10+ years of progressive experience in payroll operations, with significant experience managing payroll in a complex, multi-country global environment alongside facilitating equity administration across large-scale, publicly traded organizations.
Vendor Management: Deep expertise in navigating, managing, and consolidating multi-vendor networks (e.g., ADP, Workday, SAP), with a clear understanding of how to extract value and maintain stability.
Project Management: Strong project management and change management skills, with an analytical, metrics-driven approach to solving complex operational bottlenecks.
Geographic Expertise: Thorough regulatory and operational compliance expertise across global markets, with a strong emphasis on Asia-Pacific and North America markets.
Language Proficiency: Fluency in written and spoken English, with proficiency in a Korean a plus.
