Glencore is committed to providing an environment that adheres to the Respect at Work Legislation.
About the Role
As an active participant in the Glencore Coal Assets Australia (GCAA) Projects team, the Environment and Community Coordinator will play a key role in supporting the environmental and community management requirements of the Ulan Complex projects portfolio, ensuring project activities are delivered in accordance with approval conditions, regulatory obligations and business objectives.
The primary purpose of this role is to coordinate environmental, community and stakeholder engagement activities across exploration programs, environmental approvals, project planning, and delivery.
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will work closely with project teams, consultants, and key stakeholders to coordinate environmental approvals, compliance, community liaison, and stakeholder engagement activities associated with the development and delivery of key project initiatives.
With a focus on project development rather than day-to-day operational environmental management, you will contribute to projects across the exploration, study, approval, and execution phases.
This position offers flexibility to be based at either the Ulan Mine Complex or in the Hunter Valley, working a full-time Monday to Friday roster. Regular travel to Ulan and other project locations will be required, including a minimum of three days per week at Ulan and additional travel to support project activities as required.
Key Tasks Include:
- Coordinate community liaison and stakeholder engagement activities, including working closely with landholders, community representatives, regulators, and other key stakeholders to support exploration, environmental assessment, and project approval activities.
- Coordinate landholder access arrangements, including access agreements and stakeholder communications required to support exploration programs, environmental studies, and project activities.
- Support the preparation and management of environmental approvals, impact assessments, environmental management plans, and regulatory submissions.
- Coordinate environmental monitoring, compliance inspections, audits, and reporting requirements associated with project activities.
- Manage and coordinate consultants and contractors undertaking environmental, community and project-related studies, investigations, and field programs to support exploration activities, project approvals, and delivery.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with site personnel, consultants, contractors, regulators, and community stakeholders.
- Liaise with government agencies, regulators and approval authorities regarding exploration approvals, compliance obligations, and stakeholder matters.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all applicable policies, guidelines, legislation, regulations, and statutory obligations.
- Identify, assess, and support the management of environmental and community risks associated with project development and delivery.
- Maintain environmental and community management systems, records, registers, and databases.
- Support the investigation of environmental incidents, complaints and non-conformances and assist with the development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Provide environmental and community advice and support to project teams to assist with project planning, approvals, and delivery.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resources, Planning or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental and/or community management within the mining, infrastructure, construction, or related industries.
- Experience supporting exploration programs, environmental approvals, technical studies, and/or project delivery activities.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate reports, submissions, and correspondence.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver work programs independently while managing competing priorities.
- Experience using GIS software (preferably ArcGIS Pro) and preparing, analysing, and presenting spatial information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- A proactive approach to delivering high-quality outcomes while maintaining compliance with regulatory and governance requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic project environment.
- Sound understanding of the exploration and project development lifecycle, including environmental assessment, approvals, compliance, rehabilitation, and relinquishment requirements.
- Experience coordinating consultants, field programs, and technical studies, with the ability to build effective relationships with regulators, landholders, and external stakeholders.
