Summary

About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

  • Diagnose defects determines work methods and trade techniques to be used in accomplishing the rebuild and/or repair and adjustment of one variant of the reciprocating diesel engine.
  • Perform the complete rebuild and/or repair of one major system of combat vehicles such as engines.
  • Connect component parts to perform assembly of diesel engines, perform add-ons and conducts tests.
  • Perform general mechanical work in connection with the repair, rebuild, overhaul and modification of a variety of combat tactical vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision which includes perform common reciprocating diesel engine assembly, disassembly, repair, and rebuild operations on V6, V8, and 1790-series engines and components to ensure proper function in accordance with established technical standards. -Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Troubleshooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Work involves standing, bending, reaching, stretching, crouching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated; is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant
