Summary
Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, San Francisco Field Office, Office of the DFO, located in San Francisco, California. Duties

This position starts at a salary of $111,896.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $145,468.00 (GS-12, Step 10). GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. In this position, you will strengthen the Department's ability to perform homeland security functions by developing policies, conducting special studies, and providing technical assistance. Typical work assignments include: Maintaining the Field Office Table of Organization (T/O); ensuring positions are accurately recorded and that on board data is kept up to date. Coordinating with the CBP Hiring Center to resolve processing, recruitment, reporting, and other staffing issues. Providing employee performance award and appraisal guidance using knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies. Overseeing the workers' compensation program for the field office and serves as an Injury Compensation Coordinator (ICC) under the confidential cognizance of the U.S. Department of Labor. Coordinating with field office and national office staff to ensure that improvement efforts are integrated and support other disciplines and core processes.
Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Developing and recommending improvements to workforce management policies, procedures, and processes to enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Designing and implementing complex data analysis methods to assess workforce needs and recommend strategic solutions. Providing guidance to senior leadership on workforce planning, resource allocation, and program improvement initiatives. Managing the preparation and delivery of comprehensive reports and briefings on workforce management issues for executive decision-making. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve workforce challenges and drive continuous improvement in program operations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/29/2026.
