Description

Title: Marketing & Communications Specialist

Reports to: Vice President, Marketing & Communications

Supervises: None

Position: Full time, hourly

Location: Leadership Center

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Specialist serves as the Marcom team's traffic manager, shared production and flex capacity resource. The role keeps the steady flow of everyday requests moving (signage, web updates, newsletter production, and service requests from HR, IT, Finance, and Customer Care, and from within Marcom department). Content creation is built into the job from day one, with a clear path to grow into a Manager role. This is a new role for the council and we're looking for someone who is eager to learn, organized, and excited to tell Girl Scout stories.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Request intake and production (about 35%)

  • Manage the team's request intake for internal departments, triage requests, and complete routine projects or route them to the right Manager.
  • Produce signage, flyers, and event materials from brand templates; coordinate printing and delivery for Marcom-led projects.
  • Keep brand templates, the photo and asset library, and photo-release records organized and current.

Website (about 20%)

  • Make routine website updates: event listings, forms, staff pages, and program information.
  • Check pages for broken links, outdated content, and basic accessibility.

Newsletter production (15%)

  • Compile the council's newsletters from content supplied by the Managers and other departments.
  • Build, proof, schedule, and send each issue on deadline; report on metrics and bring ideas for improvement to implement.

Content creation (about 20%, growing over time)

  • Write and design social posts, short stories, and short-form video under a Manager's direction.
  • Capture photos and stories at council events.
  • Take on progressively larger pieces as skills grow (see growth path below).

Team support (about 10%)

  • Track freelance and agency jobs, deadlines, and input invoices for the department.
  • Help pull campaign and channel data into shared reports.

Track other analytics and assist team members as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A portfolio showing both writing and design work.
  • Hands-on experience running organizational Facebook and Instagram accounts, including Meta Business Suite. Working knowledge of Google Ads a plus.
  • Working skill in Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Canva, with email marketing platforms, and website CMS.
  • Ability to manage several internal clients and deadlines at once, and to say no or "not yet" with care.
  • Clear, error-free writing and a strong eye for detail.
  • Working skill in Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Comfort with, or quick to learn, a website CMS and an email marketing platform.
  • Organized and calm with many small deadlines at once.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Photography or short-form video skills.
  • Experience marketing a membership, volunteer, or youth-serving organization.
  • Experience with seasonal or product-sales campaigns.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Girl Scout experience as a member, alumna, or volunteer.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, graphic design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • One to three years of marketing or communications experience; internships and volunteer work may count.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to perform all skills and abilities is not a requirement—we are seeking for the right candidate to fit the position and organization. Key skills and abilities include:
