The Superintendent, Metallurgy is responsible for driving production optimization initiatives at the processing mill, providing technical support, and executing specialized assignments related to process improvements, new projects, and mill expansion initiatives.

Working Conditions

The Superintendent, Metallurgy is a site-based role supporting metallurgical and production optimization activities at GMIN’s Oko Gold operation. The role requires the ability to work effectively in a mine-site and processing-plant environment, provide technical guidance, and support continuous improvement and mill expansion initiatives. The position involves a combination of regular office work and time within production areas, where appropriate PPE and strict adherence to health and safety requirements are mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform specific metallurgy-related assignments as part of the mill development and optimization and mill expansion

Supervise and follow-up on the various metallurgy works performed in the internal and external laboratories

Prepares business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders

Participate in business and / or project planning by offering technical and cross functional expertise

Influence leaders and key stakeholders to buy into change efforts that will result in sustained competitive advantage

Review best practices and the competitive landscape and recommends continuous improvement efforts in metallurgy

Demonstrate advanced level knowledge in metallurgy

Identify the need for and develops company-wide standards, procedures, and policies and ensures compliance with industry and professional regulations

Ensure all projects are integrated with other business activities and that regional and functional interests are represented; ensure redundancies across improvement projects are minimized

Act as a senior point of contact for all technical employees in the mineral processing function, including building their capabilities and troubleshooting escalated issues

Compile, assemble, analyze and distribute metallurgy work results. Interpret results and make recommendations for management.

Participate and assist in the development of operations criteria, cost estimations and recoveries.

Participate in the development and selection of the mill’s process diagram.

2. Assist management in maintaining the continuous improvement program for mill performances

Perform specific studies to assist the various practitioners in identifying improvement opportunities.

Compile, analyze and review milling costs with the mill personnel in order to identify cost reduction opportunities.

4. Provide general metallurgy assistance to the operations team and to other sectors such as: environment, laboratory, etc.

Ensure that the operation receives all the necessary training in order to ensure process optimization

Provide technical assistance to the site personnel in specific projects in order to solve problems related to water or effluents.

Requirements

Experience

10 years of related experience

Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or management role.

Education/Certification/Designation

B.Sc. in Metallurgical or Mineral Processing Engineering, or a related field of study

Technical Skills/Knowledge

Good knowledge and technical expertise in ore processing

Experience in mill development

Capacity to multi-task on several assignments

Teamwork skills
