The Superintendent, Power Plant is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the mining site's power generation facilities. The role ensures continuous electrical power supply to support mining, processing, camp facilities, and associated infrastructure while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Working Conditions

This position involves a combination of office and field-based work within a mining and power generation environment. The incumbent is regularly exposed to operating equipment, maintenance activities, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions, and must adhere to all safety regulations and PPE requirements. The role requires frequent interaction with operational teams and may involve working extended hours to support critical plant operations and maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance and Asset Reliability

Direct and supervise all power plant operations to ensure continuous and reliable power generation.

Ensure power generation capacity meets mine, processing plant, and camp operational requirements.

Monitor plant performance and operating parameters to maximize equipment availability and efficiency.

Develop, implement, and maintain plant operating procedures and standards.

Coordinate with mining, processing, and maintenance departments regarding power demand and operational requirements.

Lead operational readiness activities for plant upgrades, expansions, and commissioning projects.

2.Power Plant Operations Management

Direct and supervise all power plant operations to ensure continuous and reliable power generation.

Ensure power generation capacity meets mine, processing plant, and camp operational requirements.

Monitor plant performance and operating parameters to maximize equipment availability and efficiency.

Develop, implement, and maintain plant operating procedures and standards.

Coordinate with mining, processing, and maintenance departments regarding power demand and operational requirements.

Lead operational readiness activities for plant upgrades, expansions, and commissioning projects.

3.Provide leadership to the Power Plant Team

Lead, mentor, and develop power plant operators, technicians, and supervisory personnel.

Establish performance expectations and monitor employee performance against agreed objectives.

Identify training and development requirements to maintain a competent workforce.

Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department.

Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.

Ensure effective workforce planning and staffing to meet operational requirements.

Requirements

Experience

8-15 years of experience in power generation operations or maintenance.

Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or management role.

Experience in mining, industrial, or remote-site power generation environments.

Experience with diesel, heavy fuel oil (HFO), gas-fired, or hybrid power generation systems

Education/Certification/Designation

University degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree.

Professional designation or certification in a related area.

Technical Skills/Knowledge

Solid working knowledge of Electrical methods and procedures.

Power generation systems and equipment.

High-voltage electrical systems and distribution networks.

Preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).

SCADA and plant control systems.

Project management and budgeting.

Root cause failure analysis (RCFA).

Required Behavioral Skills
