The Opportunity:

I n this role, you will report to the Area Operations Manager and will work closely with Avantor’s Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time to science.

Location: Hamilton, Ontario

Shift: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm

Hourly Rate: $25 – $30

What we’re looking for

  • Education: Associates degree in Life Sciences, Laboratory Science, Supply Chain, or a related field is required; Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline preferred
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience supporting laboratory operations, facilities, logistics, inventory management, or related operational environments.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience maintaining operational records, documentation, and reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to safely lift and move laboratory supplies and materials.
  • Experience supporting research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or clinical laboratory environments.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety, chemical handling, and waste management practices.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments, including GMP, GLP, ISO, or similar standards.
  • Experience using inventory, procurement, CMMS, ERP, or laboratory management systems.
  • Certification in inventory management, laboratory operations, or safety is a plus.

How you will thrive and create an impact

Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

In this role you will:

Laboratory Operations & Service Coordination

  • Serve as the primary coordinator for laboratory operational support services and maintain day-to-day laboratory readiness.
  • Coordinate and track operational requests from laboratory personnel to ensure timely completion and effective service delivery.
  • Maintain operational records, documentation, metrics, and reporting.
  • Partner with laboratory personnel and support teams to optimize workflows, resolve operational needs, and improve service quality.

Receiving, Logistics & Materials Distribution

  • Receive, inspect, process, and distribute incoming laboratory shipments, including reagents, consumables, supplies, and other materials.
  • Maintain receiving and chain-of-custody documentation as required.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of temperature-sensitive and regulated materials.
  • Coordinate movement of materials between laboratory locations.
  • Resolve shipment discrepancies and coordinate with vendors as needed.

Inventory & Procurement

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of laboratory consumables, supplies, and operational materials.
  • Perform cycle counts, reconciliations, and routine inventory audits to maintain accuracy.
  • Monitor stock levels and proactively replenish critical materials.
  • Process purchase requests and support routine procurement activities.
  • Track inventory performance and identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy and material availability.

Waste, Safety & Laboratory Support

  • Coordinate chemical, biological, and other laboratory waste processes, including labeling, documentation, staging, collection, and vendor pickups.
  • Support laboratory housekeeping, organization, and workspace readiness.
  • Participate in safety inspections, audits, and compliance activities, including corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain required safety, environmental, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure laboratory support activities follow established procedures and EHS requirements.

Equipment, Cryogen & Utility Support

  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, and routine operational readiness checks.
  • Manage vendor service visits and facility access requirements.
  • Monitor compressed gas inventories and coordinate replacements.
  • Coordinate delivery and replenishment of liquid nitrogen, dry ice, and other laboratory utilities.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance and service records.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, workflows, and service quality.
  • Promote operational standardization, best practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a culture focused on safety, quality, collaboration, and operational excellence.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$50,500.00 - $81,650.00 Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
