Radioisotopes Production Specialist
TerraPower Isotopes (TPI) is seeking an Radioisotopes Production Specialist to produce actinium-225 and other medical isotopes supporting the rapidly growing field of targeted radiopharmaceutical therapies. Working hands-on in cleanrooms, hot cells, and gloveboxes, Specialists execute technically demanding radioisotope production while balancing the rigorous requirements of radiological safety, cGMP manufacturing, procedural compliance, equipment reliability, and production performance.
Production Specialists are experienced technical operators who do more than execute procedures. They are expected to understand the processes and equipment they operate, recognize abnormal conditions, exercise conservative operational judgment, troubleshoot problems, improve work processes, and help develop less-experienced members of the production team. Specialists may work across the production landscape in chemical preparation and production support, in radioisotope processing, and in dispensing and packaging and are expected to progressively develop qualifications across TPI production areas. Advancement through Specialist levels reflects increasing technical breadth, proficiency, judgment, and leadership.
Responsibilities:
Radioisotope Production
Execute qualified production activities involving chemical preparation and production support, radioisotope processing, and dispensing and packaging operations within a cGMP environment.
Set up and operate production equipment; prepare, identify, control, and reconcile materials, reagents, solutions, consumables, product, and waste.
Maintain clean, organized, and production-ready work areas, equipment, materials, and documentation.
Safe & Compliant Operations
Execute work in accordance with approved procedures, radiological controls, cGMP/Quality requirements, and production schedules while maintaining positive control of the activity.
Produce complete, accurate, and contemporaneous production records and reinforce disciplined procedure use and operational standards.
Monitor equipment and process conditions, recognize abnormal responses, and take conservative action within technical authority to stop or place activities in a safe and stable condition and coordinate appropriate escalation.
Technical Performance & Continuous Improvement
Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and support inspections, maintenance, commissioning, qualification, validation, and production-readiness activities.
Participate in and, as experience warrants, lead technical portions of investigations, causal analyses, corrective actions, change controls, and implementation of operational improvements.
Author, review, and improve operating procedures, batch/execution records, checklists, and other technical documentation.
Technical Leadership & Qualification
Develop and maintain qualifications across assigned production areas and progressively expand technical breadth and proficiency.
Train, coach, and support qualification of Technicians and less-experienced Specialists in production processes, equipment, and disciplined operational practices.
Serve as a technical resource to Operations and partner with Quality, Engineering, Equipment Services, Radiation Protection, Logistics, R&D, and other supporting organizations to resolve problems and improve production performance.
Key Qualification and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical or nuclear engineering, radiological sciences, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; relevant military experience considered.
Minimum of approximately 3 years of relevant experience in radiopharmaceutical manufacturing, nuclear operations, radiochemistry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical processing, or another highly regulated technical environment; experience working with radioactive materials in a cGMP environment is strongly preferred.
Experienced in disciplined procedure use, technical work controls, radiological controls, and accurate recordkeeping.
Ability to understand complex technical processes and equipment interactions, recognize abnormal conditions, troubleshoot problems, and apply conservative technical judgment.
Demonstrated technical writing ability, including the ability to clearly document work and develop or improve procedures, forms, batch/execution records, or other operating documents. Utilization of artificial intelligence tools is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applicable to equipment troubleshooting, investigations, causal analysis, and continuous improvement.
Ability to train and coach others, provide effective technical direction during production activities, and influence performance without requiring formal supervisory authority.
Ability and willingness to routinely work for prolonged periods in chemical and radiological environments while wearing required PPE, which may include protective clothing, laboratory/chemical gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection such as PAPRs.
Ability to support a flexible production schedule across multiple shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as production needs require. Current operations generally occur between approximately 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.; schedules and shift structures may evolve as production capacity expands.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical aptitude with disciplined execution, intellectual curiosity, sound operational judgment, and an uncompromising commitment to radiological safety and product quality. The individual must work effectively within a diverse team and demonstrate the trust, integrity, teamwork, and questioning attitude required in high-consequence nuclear and pharmaceutical operations.
