Job Title: Search Engineer

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Employment Type: Regular, full-time, hybrid work arrangement

The job

We are looking for a Search Engineer to join AVEVA’s newly established AI & Digital Delivery hub in Kuala Lumpur. In this role, you will shape and deliver fast, relevant, and AI-enhanced search experiences across customer and partner portals.

You will work with technologies such as Solr, Elasticsearch, Apache Lucene, OpenSearch, and Alibaba OpenSearch to support discovery across product catalogues, documentation, partner resources, and knowledge bases.

Key responsibilities

• •Design and implement search architecture for customer and partner platforms.
• •Deploy, configure, and optimise Solr, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, and/or Alibaba OpenSearch for multi-region search workloads.
• •Develop search relevancy models, including ranking, scoring, boosting, synonyms, stemming, and query analysis.
• •Build search APIs, indexing/document ingestion pipelines, faceted search, auto-complete, type-ahead, and AI-enhanced search features.
• •Monitor search performance, relevance metrics, and user behaviour to continuously improve search quality.

Essential requirements

• •5–8 years of experience in search engineering, information retrieval, or enterprise search, including production-scale search delivery.
• •Strong hands-on experience with Apache Solr, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Apache Lucene, or similar search technologies, including index design, cluster management, and query tuning.
• •Experience with search relevance, ranking/scoring, indexing pipelines, query analysis, and search performance optimisation.
• •Understanding of NLP fundamentals, including tokenisation, stemming, and entity recognition.
• •Proficiency in at least one backend language such as C#, Python, or Java.

Desired skills

• •Azure AI Search / Azure Cognitive Search, AWS OpenSearch, Alibaba OpenSearch, Coveo, Algolia, or Typesense
• •Vector search, semantic search, embeddings, RAG, knowledge graph search, or Learning to Rank (LTR)
• •Search analytics, information retrieval, full-text search, faceted search, synonyms, and search API development
• •CJK tokenisation, Kafka, or other search-related technologies
• •Additional proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage, particularly for supporting Mandarin-speaking markets.
