About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 by JB Straubel, co-founder and former CTO of Tesla, on a simple but radical idea: the critical minerals powering the energy transition already exist. They just need to come back. Today Redwood is the largest lithium-ion battery recycler in North America — recovering, refining, and redeploying critical minerals from end-of-life batteries back into the supply chain. On the energy side, Redwood has deployed the largest second-life battery project in the world, delivering power to AI data centers in months rather than years using proprietary energy architecture engineered entirely in-house. The company is profitable, the market it operates in is projected to grow 20 to 50 times over the next decade, and Redwood is the only company with the supply chain, the technology, and the operational scale to lead it.

Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets/CIP is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of the company's fixed assets and construction-in-progress (CIP) portfolio, including capital project cost tracking, capitalization, and reconciliation. This is a fully on-site role at LH 2. This role independently resolves reconciliation variances and audit findings of diverse scope, applying US GAAP across a range of capital project scenarios with limited precedent. The Senior Accountant partners with Engineering, Procurement, and Operations to ensure capital spend is properly classified and reported, and advises less experienced accounting staff on project accounting procedures. Success in this role depends on sound technical accounting judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple capital projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced, growing manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

Manage the accounting lifecycle of capital projects from initiation through capitalization, including detailed cost tracking of labor and materials, in accordance with US GAAP and company policy

Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations of fixed asset and CIP sub-ledgers to the general ledger, researching and resolving variances

Prepare fixed asset and CIP schedules, roll-forwards, and disclosures supporting monthly close, financial statements, and external audit requests

Maintain and strengthen internal controls over project accounting and capitalization processes to support audit readiness

Review capital expenditure and project close-out requests for proper classification, useful life assignment, and capitalization treatment

Partner with Engineering, Procurement, and Operations to track project spend against budget and resolve coding or timing discrepancies

Advise and provide guidance to junior accounting staff on project accounting procedures

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including fixed asset or capital project accounting, preferably in a multinational or manufacturing environment

Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., D365, Oracle) and fixed asset/project accounting modules

Strong working knowledge of US GAAP as it relates to capitalization, depreciation, and impairment of fixed assets

Advanced Excel skills and ability to interpret and reconcile complex financial data

Ability to work independently and exercise judgment to resolve variances and audit findings with limited precedent

Effective communication skills to advise cross-functional partners and external auditors on project accounting matters

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
