The role leads the global organization and owns its strategy, governance, budget, resources, EHS Management System, and future capability to meet applicable legal and regulatory requirements and enable sustainable business growth.

The position operates across a highly regulated and rapidly evolving Radiopharma environment, including radiopharmaceutical manufacturing, cyclotron operations, Theranostics, CDMO activities, new products and isotopes, facility development, and geographic expansion. It comprises two distinct areas of accountability:

  • Executive and Global RPEHS Leadership
  • Corporate Radiation Safety Officer responsibilities, subject to applicable U.S. qualification, designation, and regulatory requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

Executive and Global RPEHS Leadership

  • Develop and execute the global RPEHS strategy and future capability roadmap, translating business growth, new technologies, products, facilities, acquisitions, and regulatory developments into organizational, resource, and governance requirements.
  • Integrate RPEHS into business strategy, investment, facility development, operational readiness, and major business decisions and identify constraints that could limit compliant and sustainable growth.
  • Own the architecture, governance, effectiveness, and continuous evolution of the global Radiopharma EHS Management System across diverse international and U.S. federal and state legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Establish global requirements, operational controls, accountabilities, performance expectations, management review, and escalation principles while enabling appropriate regional and local implementation.
  • Set the RPEHS digitalization, data, workflow, and automation roadmap to improve compliance management, transparency, scalability, and organizational learning.
  • Design and lead the global RPEHS organization, including organizational structure, decision authority, budget and cost-center responsibility, workforce and resource strategy, talent development, succession, employee engagement, and retention.
  • Develop managers and technical leaders and build effective networks across Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Engineering, Legal, Security, Training, HR, IT, and other functions to drive decisions in a complex matrix organization.
  • Provide executive visibility and escalation of significant risks, regulatory developments, performance, capability gaps, and resource requirements, and represent RPEHS in executive planning, investments, integrations, and other major business decisions.

Corporate Radiation Safety Officer

  • Serve as designated CRSO with the authority and organizational independence required to administer and continuously improve the U.S. Radiation Protection Program across licensed operations.
  • Own U.S. radioactive material licensing and cyclotron-registration strategy and maintain effective working relationships with federal and state radiation-control authorities through licensing activities, inspections, investigations, regulatory correspondence, notifications, and enforcement matters.
  • Provide final Radiation Protection review and approval, as applicable, for licensing submissions, shielding and facility designs, new or modified licensed activities, Theranostics programs, new products and isotopes, construction and expansion projects, significant process changes, and operational readiness.
  • Establish and approve U.S. Radiation Protection Program requirements and lead the Corporate Radiation Safety Committee, including oversight of RSO/DRSO qualification, appointment, development, and performance.
  • Maintain operational oversight of core Radiation Protection programs, including dosimetry, ALARA, monitoring, radioactive material transportation, waste management, material accountability, required records, compliance assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Exercise independent regulatory judgment and lead Radiation Protection aspects of incidents, reportability decisions, regulatory notifications, inspections, investigations, legal matters, and other significant U.S. regulatory issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in Radiation Protection, Health Physics, Medical Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, EHS, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Significant leadership experience in Radiation Protection, EHS, radiopharmaceutical manufacturing, accelerator operations, or another complex regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading managers and multidisciplinary technical teams across countries, cultures, organizational boundaries, and time zones.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational strategy, management systems, business growth, organizational design, talent development, budgets, workforce planning, and resource prioritization.
  • Strong executive communication and business judgment, with the ability to translate technical, regulatory, and organizational risks into decisions and build alignment across a complex matrix organization.

Additional Requirements for CRSO Designation

  • At least five years of applied health physics experience involving Radiation Protection issues comparable to the U.S. Radiopharma program.
  • Demonstrated experience as a named RSO or CRSO with U.S. radioactive-material licensing, cyclotron registrations, regulatory inspections, investigations, corrective actions, and Radiation Protection Program management.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent regulatory judgment and prioritize competing Radiation Protection, regulatory, and operational demands across multiple U.S. sites, including time-critical situations.
  • Certification by the American Board of Health Physics as a Certified Health Physicist or by the American Board of Medical Physics in Medical Health Physics.
  • Ability to meet applicable licensing, regulatory, and location requirements for CRSO designation and maintain effective engagement with U.S. licensed operations and regulatory authorities.
