Role Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our i.MX multimedia software team. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize the multimedia software stack for NXP’s i.MX application processors—spanning camera, display, graphics, audio/video, streaming, and codec subsystems on embedded Linux platforms. You will work across the full stack, from low-level kernel interfaces to user-space frameworks, enabling rich multimedia experiences on our SoCs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, integrate, and optimize multimedia components across the i.MX BSP (Board Support Package).
  • Debug and resolve complex issues spanning kernel drivers, middleware, and application-level frameworks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional hardware, architecture, and customer-facing teams to enable and validate multimedia features.
  • Contribute to upstream open-source projects and maintain alignment with mainline Linux multimedia ecosystems.
  • Profile and improve performance, latency, and resource utilization of multimedia pipelines.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or relevant disciplines.
  • 3~5 years of Software development experience for Embedded Linux or Android.
  • Very experienced on C/C++ programming.
  • Good understanding of technologies in at least one of the following areas:
  • Media framework: GStreamer, ffmpeg, Pipewire, StageFright/Codec2, OpenMAX IL.
  • Video: video codecs (H.264, H.265, etc) and V4L2 interfaces.
  • Audio: audio codecs (AAC, MP3, etc), ALSA, PulseAudio.
  • Parser / muxer: MP4, MKV, TS, AVI, FLV, etc.
  • Camera & video capture: V4L2 / media controller framework, libcamera, MIPI-CSI/ISP capture pipelines.
  • Graphics & display: Wayland, Weston, DRM/KMS, EGL, OpenGL/ES, OpenCL, Vulkan.
  • Streaming protocols: HTTP, RTSP, HLS, DASH, etc.
  • Chromium: HTML5 Audio/Video.

Quick learner, inquisitive and team work spirit.

Preferred / Bonus Skills

  • Experience with NXP i.MX platforms (i.MX 8/9 series) or similar ARM-based SoCs.
  • Familiarity with Yocto Project build systems and embedded Linux distributions.
  • Contributions to open-source multimedia or Linux kernel projects.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to shape the multimedia experience on industry-leading application processors.
  • A collaborative, technically deep engineering environment with global teams.
  • Continuous learning and growth in cutting-edge embedded and multimedia technologies.
