Senior Staff Accountant

Lewiston, ME | $95k-$115k annually | Full-Time | Benefits Starting Day One

Bring Accuracy, Insight, and Accountability to a Growing Manufacturing Business

Great accounting is about more than closing the books. It gives leaders the accurate information they need to understand the business, make better decisions, and plan what comes next. Elmet Technologies is looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Lewiston, Maine. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Accounting, you’ll play an important role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our monthly and annual financial results.

You’ll own and support core general ledger activities, financial reporting, reconciliations, tax filings, fixed assets, capital project tracking, budgeting, audit preparation, and financial analysis across the organization. We’re looking for someone who combines strong accounting fundamentals with curiosity and initiative—someone who doesn’t just identify a discrepancy but digs into the numbers, understands why it happened, and helps resolve it.

What’s In It for You

  • Benefits starting Day One, including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Tuition assistance
  • Professional development and internal growth opportunities
  • A visible role supporting financial operations across the organization
  • Exposure to manufacturing operations, capital investments, budgeting, financial reporting, and business planning
  • Opportunity to improve accounting processes and strengthen financial accountability throughout the business
  • The ability to work directly with accounting leadership and cross-functional business partners

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Staff Accountant, you’ll help ensure our financial results are complete, accurate, timely, and compliant with GAAP and other applicable standards. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare or review monthly journal entries for company locations
  • Prepare account reconciliations and review reconciliations completed by other accounting team members
  • Ensure reconciliations are complete, accurate, and ready for review and approval
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for review by the Senior Manager of Accounting
  • Analyze financial results and report on the major drivers behind variances
  • Support timely and accurate month-end and year-end financial reporting
  • Prepare personal property, sales, and use tax returns
  • Maintain the fixed asset system and associated depreciation schedules
  • Track capital projects in process and regularly report on their status
  • Assist with annual audit preparation
  • Support management in strengthening financial accountability throughout the organization
  • Provide support for the annual planning and budgeting process
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis to help answer business questions and support decision-making
  • Support the Senior Manager of Accounting with additional accounting initiatives, projects, and priorities as needed

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be a strong fit for this position if you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of general ledger, corporate accounting, or public accounting experience
  • Hands-on experience with month-end close and account reconciliation preparation
  • Comprehensive understanding of the general ledger and financial statements
  • Experience working with ERP systems
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on developing processes that improve accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities
  • A proactive approach to investigating financial issues and resolving discrepancies
  • High level of integrity and commitment to financial accuracy and confidentiality

Additional experience that can help you succeed includes:

  • Manufacturing accounting experience
  • SEC reporting or SOX experience
  • ASC 606 Revenue Recognition experience
  • ASC 842 Lease Accounting experience
  • Public accounting experience, particularly auditing

  • Helping deliver accurate and timely monthly and annual financial results
  • Maintaining reliable general ledger and account reconciliation processes
  • Identifying and explaining the drivers behind financial variances
  • Helping accounting leadership identify issues before they become larger problems
  • Providing accurate fixed asset and capital project information
  • Supporting successful audits and financial compliance
  • Improving accounting processes and controls where opportunities exist
  • Helping leaders understand the financial impact of business decisions
  • Strengthening financial accountability throughout the organization
