Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. (The above examples of related curricula are not all-inclusive.) BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR 1301 SERIES A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Evaluating hazardous or radioactive containment systems and packaging for structural integrity, safety standard compliance, or incident/emergency response readiness. Monitoring contractor or commercial carrier performance, developing technical statements of work (SOWs) or specifications, and tracking project milestones, schedules, or resource allocations. Analyzing data to resolve transportation/system anomalies, mitigate operational risks, or improve safety and process efficiencies. GS-14: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service.
