Weekend & Emergency Veterinary Nurse
AllPets Veterinary Hospital | Drogheda, Co. Louth
Permanent Position | 7 On / 7 Off Style Rota
Salary €40,000 - €44,000 DOE
A Rare Opportunity to Join One of Ireland's Most Established Veterinary Hospitals
Opportunities to join the team at AllPets Veterinary Hospital don't come along often.
Known throughout the region for its exceptional standards of patient care, experienced clinical team, and long-standing staff retention, AllPets has built a reputation as one of Ireland's leading veterinary hospitals. Many members of the team have been with the practice for years, creating a supportive, collaborative environment where people genuinely enjoy coming to work and building lasting careers.
As our hospital continues to grow, we're introducing an exciting new nursing position that has been specifically designed to support our brand new weekend and emergency service while offering something increasingly difficult to find in veterinary practice: genuine work-life balance.
If you're looking for a role that combines clinical challenge, career development, excellent earning potential and significant time away from work, this could be exactly what you've been waiting for.
A Rota Designed Around Balance
This is not a traditional nursing position.
The role is based around a two-week cycle, with approximately 60 hours worked during your "on" week, followed by a full week off. The aim is to create a sustainable and rewarding working pattern that allows you to fully switch off, recharge and enjoy extended periods away from practice throughout the year.
A typical working pattern may involve working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, enjoying a day off on Thursday, before returning for Friday, Saturday and Sunday shifts. The following week is then entirely your own.
This structure has been inspired by working models already operating successfully within our wider clinical team and has been designed to support both the needs of the hospital and the wellbeing of our people. The week-off element is intended to accommodate annual leave, CPD and bank holiday entitlement within the rota cycle, helping to create consistency for both the successful candidate and the practice.
For nurses who value quality time outside of work, whether that's family commitments, travel, personal interests or simply more time to relax, this schedule offers a level of flexibility rarely available in veterinary nursing.
Make a Real Impact Where It Matters Most
Weekends have become some of the busiest and most important periods within our hospital.
With multiple veterinary surgeons consulting and operating throughout Saturdays and a growing demand for emergency and urgent care support across weekends, the need for highly capable nursing support has never been greater.
This role has been created specifically to strengthen our weekend service, ensuring our patients continue to receive outstanding care during the periods when they need us most.
You'll become a key member of the clinical team, helping to drive patient care standards, supporting hospital workflows and contributing directly to the success of a progressive and forward-thinking veterinary hospital.
Develop Your Skills in a Busy Hospital Environment
For nurses who enjoy variety, this role offers an exceptional caseload.
Working within our modern Drogheda hospital, you'll be involved in a wide range of nursing responsibilities including emergency and urgent care cases, inpatient monitoring, theatre and anaesthesia support, medical nursing and surgical patient care.
No two days are ever quite the same, making the position ideal for nurses who enjoy staying clinically engaged and continuously developing their skills.
Whether you already have emergency and critical care experience or are looking to build confidence in this area, you'll be surrounded by experienced colleagues who are passionate about high-quality nursing and committed to supporting each other's development.
Join a Team That Values Its Nurses
At AllPets, veterinary nurses play a central role in patient care and clinical decision-making.
We're proud of the culture we've built, one where teamwork, respect and professional development are more than just words. Many of our nurses and veterinary surgeons have built long-term careers within the practice, creating a stable and supportive environment where knowledge is freely shared and people are encouraged to grow.
You'll join a team that genuinely enjoys working together, supports one another during busy periods and takes pride in delivering exceptional care to every patient that comes through our doors.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to become part of something special rather than simply filling another nursing vacancy.
Who We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from registered veterinary nurses who enjoy a busy clinical environment and take pride in delivering excellent patient care.
You may already have experience within a hospital or emergency setting, or you may be looking for a role that will allow you to develop those skills further. Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys working as part of a team, embraces variety and is excited by the opportunity to play a key role within a thriving hospital environment.
A positive attitude, strong nursing standards and a commitment to patient care are far more important to us than ticking every box.
Rewarding Commitment with Exceptional Time Off
Because this role includes regular weekend working and forms a vital part of our emergency support provision, it is accompanied by a highly competitive salary package of €40,000-€44,000 depending on experience.
Alongside this, you'll benefit from professional membership fees paid, CPD support and funding, access to wellbeing resources, employee discounts and the backing of a wider network committed to helping our teams succeed.
Most importantly, you'll enjoy something many veterinary professionals are actively seeking: a predictable rota that provides meaningful clinical work while still allowing substantial time away from practice.
Be Part of the Future at AllPets
The best veterinary careers aren't built on salary alone. They're built on great teams, supportive leadership, exciting clinical opportunities and a working pattern that allows you to enjoy life outside the practice as much as the time you spend within it.
At AllPets Veterinary Hospital, we've worked hard to create exactly that environment.
If you're looking for a role that offers challenge, progression, exceptional team support and every second week to yourself, we'd love to hear from you.
Join one of Ireland's most respected veterinary hospitals and become part of a team where great nurses are valued, supported and encouraged to thrive.
